About the Project
The UK's data skills landscape suffers from an acute data deficit. Due to limited prior studies and inconsistent methodologies, key bodies remained unconvinced of the nature and scale of the "data skills gap", restricting strategic planning and decision-making. Particular challenges existed in assessing regional and sectoral disparities, as well as restrictions on historically underrepresented groups.
The Data Skills Taskforce and its members have contributed to several policies and reports, including:
- The Royal Society, Dynamics of data science skills, (May, '19)
- BCS, Scaling Up The Ethical Artificial Intelligence MSc Pipeline, (June '19)
- DCMS/Opinium, Quantifying the UK Data Skills Gap, (May '21)
The taskforce continues its work through the Skills Data Observatory project.
