Organisational Data Readiness

Supporting data literacy upskilling across organisations.

About the Project

Significant barriers prevent SMEs’ ability to develop capacity in Data Science and related fields. PwC' 2015 Annual CEO Survey found that whilst 80% of UK CEOs see data analytics as a key strand of their strategy, and a source of competitive advantage, 73% believe that the availability of key skills is a major threat. This challenge is particularly acute for SMEs, with a BT report finding only 4% of SMEs leveraging big data technologies.

This project is raising awareness of the value of data for UK businesses, by providing access to training 'at scale' in areas relating to Data Skills, with an emphasis on SMEs. This course is designed for executives and managers working within - and having governance responsibility for - data science functions.

In this course, participants will learn about three main topics:

  • Develop a foundational understanding of the capabilities, risks and limitations of data and AI within your organisation.
  • Explore the ways in which organisations are using data to create busines value.
  • Reflect on the data maturity of your organisation and identify next steps to increase value and further develop your capability.

The course is due for public release in May 2022.

This project was funded via the Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport, with further support from the members of the Data Skills Taskforce.
